The third regional forum for stakeholders in the Eastern Nile Basin continues in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. The forum began on June 18 and will last for three days with high-level participation from delegations of Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia, and South Sudan, under the umbrella of the “Eastern Nile Climate Resilience Project” (ENC-REP), affiliated with the Eastern Nile Technical Regional Office (ENTRO).

During the first two days, the forum discussed the increasing climate challenges in the region and ways to adapt to the impacts of climate change on transboundary water resources. The sessions focused on exchanging experiences related to sustainable water management, regional cooperation practices, and future prospects for enhancing integration among basin countries.

The scientific sessions featured specialized presentations by experts from the region, covering topics such as early warning systems, ecosystem protection, water infrastructure development, and linking water issues with energy and agriculture to achieve joint development. The forum also witnessed significant engagement from participants, especially concerning enhancing transparency, good governance, and community involvement.

Sudan recorded a notable presence with a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources. The delegation led several sessions and expressed Sudan’s commitment to strengthening regional partnerships and activating scientific and practical mechanisms to confront climate challenges and ensure shared water security.

The forum is expected to conclude tomorrow, June 20, with the formulation of final recommendations and a proposed joint action plan among the basin countries, in a step that reflects a sincere desire to build a sustainable water future based on justice and effective regional cooperation—for thewelfare of the people.
